Voter-Approved Bond Brings New School to Kresston
Within the next couple of years, Kresston kiddos could be walking or biking to school, thanks to the passage of a Magnolia ISD bond package that will fund construction of an elementary school within the community.
The nearly $466 million single-bond proposition passed May 2 with 63 percent voter approval. The bond focused on student instructional space, with 92 percent of the funding dedicated to facilities. Elementary #10 in Kresston is projected to be the first of the three new schools to debut, with a planned 2028 opening. Another elementary is slated to open in 2029, with its location to be determined based on growth patterns. The district’s third high school is projected to open in 2030 along the FM 1486 corridor.
Even with the bond’s passage, the district’s tax rate remains $0.95, one of the lowest in the greater Houston area.
Magnolia ISD Superintendent Dr. Jason Bullock called Election Day “monumental for students and the entire Magnolia community.”
“When we started this process, our goal was to listen first, and this result reflects a shared vision for our students’ future,” he said. “Thank you to our parents and the community for placing your trust in us. By investing in these new schools today, we aren’t just building classrooms; we’re ensuring that every student who walks through our doors has the space and the resources to thrive as our district grows.”
The school district has anticipated quick growth in Kresston, purchasing land for Elementary #10 in 2024 — even before home sales started.
Kresston’s Vice President and General Manager Stephen Barrera says Magnolia ISD is part of Kresston’s appeal.
“The district is highly regarded for its small-town approach and big-city innovations when it comes to academics and extra-curricular activities,” he said. “We have worked closely with the school district since development began to support their outstanding efforts and are excited our residents will have such a valuable resource located right here in the community.”
The new elementary school will be located in Kresston’s Heartland district. As community development continues, future districts might also have land allocated for a new school.
