It’s that time of year! Time for hot cocoa, tree lightings, holiday parades and Commissioner  Charlie Riley’s annual Family Fun Day, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2.

This is the seventh year for the event which takes place in Magnolia’s Unity Park. The event features pony rides, face painting, a rock climbing wall, petting zoo, bounce houses and more — all provided free by Commissioner Riley.

Families can to bring picnic lunches or purchase snacks from vendors. All food purchases benefit Magnolia West FFA. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.

The fun doesn’t end there. Families are invited to stay and watch the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber's “Magic of Christmas Parade of Lights” followed by Magnolia's lighting of the tree in Unity Park.

Dozens of holiday-themed floats, decorated vehicles and other seasonal displays will proceed along a two-mile route beginning at Magnolia Junior High along Nichols Sawmill Road and ending there after circling around past Magnolia Elementary and the constable’s and tax office building.

The parade attracts approximately 5,000 to 6,000 attendees each year. The best way to get a good seat for the parade and the tree lighting is to start with Family Fun Day.

The event is one of many hosted by the City of Magnolia each year and just another great reason to make your home at Kresston by Johnson Development.
